onTarget Search is a Personalberatung working in executive search, an activity it has carried out since 2001. Its promise is to find the leading minds, and to reach the candidates that no job advertisement would ever have reached. The practice describes its work as targeted and reliable, and says it operates confidentially and discreetly. It does not collect CVs, maintain dormant records or run digital career portals; instead it concentrates on talent and on personal networks, and it says this is how it reaches people who are successful in their jobs and are not actively looking, and who are invisible to advertising.

The practice is not tied to one sector. It states that it advises companies of all industries on filling leadership positions, nationwide and with discretion. Its reasoning is that nothing is as constant as change, particularly at a time when new technologies and digitalisation demand ever more specialist knowledge, and that companies must keep moving if they want to endure. onTarget Search works with clients across Germany. It says it begins an assignment only once it has fully understood which abilities and talents are being sought, because only then can it work with the best prospect of success. Clients decide how far the engagement runs: the practice can simply identify candidates and hierarchies and hand them over for the client to approach, or accompany the client through the entire recruiting process up to the signing of the contract. Its stated measure is the client's success, and its site carries sections on services, careers, the company and contact.
