Macrae

Macrae is a transatlantic legal recruiting boutique that places partners into law firms. Its work centres on lateral partners, partner groups and senior government attorneys moving into the private sector. Clients include Am Law 50 firms and Magic Circle or top 20 UK firms, as well as smaller national firms and elite boutiques. It runs contingent, exclusive and retained searches, and also advises law firms opening new offices, saying it has helped open over 35 in the US and abroad.

Macrae was founded in 2001 by Joe Macrae in the San Francisco Bay Area and was known as Mlegal until it rebranded in 2020. It says it now employs more than 40 team members across London, New York, Washington, D.C., Palo Alto and San Francisco. It operates as a partnership and describes itself as a majority woman-owned company.
