Engineering People

Engineering People is a recruitment business serving the engineering and technical industries from two offices in Victoria, at Nunawading and Keilor East. It recruits engineers across all disciplines, tradespeople and part time engineering students, and also provides trades labour hire.

Its recruitment methodology was developed in 2003, after clients found that some candidates lacked the hands-on technical skills needed to start work quickly. The company built a workshop, electronics station and engineering suite where it carries out a hands-on assessment of every candidate. Engineers are assessed in interviews using software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCad and Revit, while tradespeople are tested in the workshop on areas including welding and fabrication, and diagnostics of motors, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, valves and instrumentation. It says its candidates come with a skills guarantee based on the client's requirements.

Its consultants come from the manufacturing, automotive, service, maintenance, construction and viticulture industries. For student placements, covering first to fourth year, it recruits, runs payroll for and manages students working 10 to 25 hours a week. Peter Horsfall is Managing Director.
